Another song I'm obsessed with is from the Inception soundtrack and it is called Time. I've loved it ever since I saw the movie a couple years ago or so.

I saw a girl dance a solo to it here at BYU and I almost cried.

There's something about music that makes me feel the Spirit so strongly. I've realized over the years that it is the best and most acute way for me to feel God's power and to witness the beauty in life.

I think I was a composer in another life or something (I've tried composing some songs in this life and believe me, I'm terrible at it). There is something so moving about music. It makes me transcend the mundane.

Through what avenues do you feel the Spirit?

We were talking about this today in my Women's Literature class and some classmates said that they find their spirituality best reached through books, or movies, or their relationships with others, or through writing (I feel it there too) or through nature.

I'm so happy that we have these ways to tune into ourselves and the entities greater than us.

You might think I'm crazy, but I can't hear you; I'm too busy listening to my Inception music.

week in pictures

Sunday dinner at la casa de McCloskey. Bri and I are gorgeous.

 Playing with Rue.
One on one time with Grandma. We had Cafe Rio and chatted and it was vunderbar. I love living so close to family.

My breakfast one day. It's flax cereal (gluten free) with soy milk and a natural sweetener called Stevia. We are still on our intense "lifestyle change." The breakfast was actually really good, I loved the texture of the little balls. Yes, I just said that.

We eat a lot of salmon, chicken, vegetables, fruit and gluten free pasta and bread. The diet has been difficult, but so worth it. I don't even crave sugar!

Brett and his b-ball team are in the playoffs now. They played a tough game on Friday. One of their team members hurt his knee and the opposing team had about 10 players so they could interchange all the time. Brett and his boys kept getting shoved into the walls and were absolutely exhausted by the end. But, they won! They are awesome; they've never lost.

Brett and I have also been exercising a lot. We do weight lifting, pilates, yoga, run and just started Insanity. Insanity is . . . insane. We're going to be in ridiculous shape by the end of the 60 days.

We also saw The Hunger Games yesterday with our friends Scott, Lindsey and Emily. I was very impressed with it. I thought Jennifer Lawrence did a fantastic job as Katniss and I appreciated how closely the movie followed the plot of the book. I'm stoked for the rest of the movies to come out! There are few things that excite me more than good books turning into good movies. Twilight doesn't count.

I love Katniss; I want to be her. She's such a badass.

Have a magical day and may the odds be ever in your favor.

psalms 23:4

Some spiritual food for the day. This is one of my favorite scriptures and I wanted to take a break from homework for a little, so I made this. I'm going to hang this up in our bedroom; these are the colors of our bedspread.

Remember that God loves you and you can conquer anything through Him!

Want to hear beauty?

Listen to this.

I'm obsessed.

tuesday thankful day

So, I'm starting something new on this blog of mine. Tuesday is thankful day, where I will list ten things I am grateful for in that week or day. This will help me realize how very much I have to be grateful for and hopefully will inspire you to see life in an attitude of gratitude.

Today I am grateful for:
1) The book Gilead by Marilynne Robinson
2) Black flowy skirts
3) My creative writing class and my vibrant, enthusiastic creative writing teacher
4) Brett's patience with me even when I throw tantrums about my makeup spilling on my skirt
5) My amazing family and knowing I will never be alone
6) Oatmeal with bananas and cinnamon
7) Happy, peaceful dreams that make you wake up  in a giggling, warm mood
8) The look of glorious snow on the majestic mountains
9) Sweet text messages from friends that remind me that I'm loved
10)  The grandness of being a woman

Have a day full of gratitude!

one commitment to rule them all

Brett and I haven't been eating the healthiest lately. Let's say we're both addicted to pizza and all things sugar. We decided that this needs to end. Pronto.

So, we concocted a vicious plan; vicious to our taste buds at least. We are going on a gluten, sugar and dairy free diet. For 30 days. It will end the last day of finals. And the diet starts tomorrow.

Today, to say farewell, I ate cheesy eggs, a quesadilla, Cafe Rio and Papa John's pizza. BUT, no more for a whole month!

When Brett and I committed to this plan, I was constantly trying to find loop holes.
Me: "I can eat sugar free ice cream, right?"
Brett: "Well, it has dairy."
Me: "Bullocks!" (I don't actually say bullocks, but it felt needed here)

Me: "I can still eat quesadillas . . . wait, we aren't allowed to have cheese!"
Brett laughs: "Nope."

Me: "Can we have cheat days?"
Brett: "Do you want to do this or not?"

Apparently Brett has way better self-discipline than I do.

I know I'm going to miss sugar the most. No cupcakes or ice cream or no-bake cookies for a whole month? How will I survive?! I have the gnarliest sweet tooth. O well, I will come out conqueror!

We wrote down a contract and everything and it is going up somewhere very conspicuous in our kitchen, most likely the refrigerator.

O, I forgot the best part! If Brett and I both stick to the contract, we are rewarding ourselves with a trip to Disneyland either at the end of April or the beginning of May! It's definitely worth it.

I will absolutely keep you posted on the progress of our crazay diet. I'm excited to look up/make gluten-free recipes and become the health freak I was born to be.

Wish me luck!

pi and saint patrick's days

March 14th equals Pi Day! 3.14. I used to celebrate it with my girlfriends and we would eat large amounts of pie, but this year I celebrated with the hubbers.

We made banana cream pie and it was delicious and very easy to create.

And yesterday was St. Patrick's Day! I love this day because I am actually Irish. Woo! Like 25% (my maiden name is McCloskey for crying out loud, how more Irish does it get than that?)

Bri is in town again so Brett, Bri and I enjoyed the greenery in nature by hiking the Y yesterday.

Brett thought it would be funny to pretend that he was trying to throw me off the cliff.

Ok, the hike wasn't that green. But, the weather was overcast and windy, and that always makes me think of Ireland for some reason. O how I want to visit that lush, green land.

Rachel, Bri and I also went on a cupcake date. I got the Irish Cream cupcake once again in celebration of St. Patrick and it was scrumptious to the taste.

Ok, I think my camera hates me. My whiteness in this picture is comparable to that of a Geisha. I swear I'm a mildly attractive person. Please excuse my ghastly (or should I say ghostly?) image in this picture.

I hope your holidays were spent doing fun things. Remember to have fun and enjoy the simple things in life. If you don't, then you're a pretty lame person. :D

a birthday and a travel plan

Jennifred turned 21!

Please ignore that silver strip in the middle of the picture.

Happy Birthday, Disney Princess!

Also, Brett and I have exciting news! We are going to Guatemala in April! I'm so excited! We are building houses and working in the orphanages. It will be amazing. I have to sharpen up my Spanish skills. AHHH  I can't wait. Who cares that we're going the week before finals? I don't!

I cannot wait!!!!!

Happy Wednesday!

Brett's mom was in town for the week. We had a grand time. She spoiled us like crazy and helped me around the house which was a joy.

We saw The Artist. Y'all have to see it. I was a little weirded out at first, but I got used to the black and white and silence and it was great.

We also went to Malawi's pizza where I had the pesto chicken pizza. O my lanta, it was sooooooooooooo good. I love food, especially pizza.

We also tried a quinoa-stuffed pepper recipe. You can get the recipe here.

We also went to the temple. We love to see the temple.

Brett with his two favorite ladies.

Brett and mommy.

Twas a great week.

I woke up this morning incredibly sick with a headache, sore throat, stuffy nose, achy body, fever and all of that. I hope it doesn't last!

Anyway, Happy Sunday!

life would be so much better without sleep

I love to sleep. But, it's also my nemesis. I hate it and love it at the same time. It's like Cheeto puffs.

This week has been crazy for me. Brett's mom is here to visit for the week which has been absolutely lovely. But, I also have a ton of homework this week and assignments due for the journals I'm an editor and designer for which has been really stressing me out.

Yesterday, I went to school with Brett's big shirt on and was un-showered and sweaty and gross. Gah.

I wrote a 15 page character exercise last night for my creative writing class. I had to form a character and create scenes that really impacted her life. She is a lady in her early thirties who used to be a professional dancer in New York whose lawyer husband got colon cancer and died. But, before he died they decided to have a baby and now she is a high school dance coach with her four year old son who looks just like her late husband. It probably sounds really cheesy to you. But, I honestly fell in love with my character, and her family. I got so immersed in this writing exercise that the hours flew by.

I realized that I love writing. I always said that I wanted to be a writer, but now I know for sure. It is a beautiful experience.

How does this apply to hating sleep? Well, I want to be a mom at some time. But, I also want to have a career. Not a full time job per se, but a vocation other than motherhood that fulfills the professional  inside of me. I want to be a yoga instructor and an editor and a writer and own a wedding invitation business and run marathons and be a travel journalist and so many other things. How can I do these things and be a good mom and wife with so few hours in the day?

I wish that I didn't have to sleep. I wish that I just had superhero masses of energy so that I can do everything I want in this life. I wish that everyone else still had to sleep, but I didn't have to so I would be so much more on top of it. Curse you sleep!

Hopefully I can still accomplish many of my goals even with the stupid necessity of sleep. For now, I'm going to get seven hours of sleep a night and pray to use the time I do have wisely. I've been cutting down my movie and TV time to focus on the things that are productive and meaningful.

Does anyone else feel the same way I do? Am I crazy?

ohana means family and modeling

Brett and I have been able to spend a good amount of time with family lately. It's so nice to be at school, but still be able to see the ones you love.

My mom and Sophie came to town a little bit ago. It was great to play with Sophie and see how much she's growing up (I'm so sad that I'm not at home to watch her progress) and to catch up with my mommy.

We went out to dinner at the Indian Palace. O my goodness, Indian food is divine.

Sophie loved the fish tank so of course a picture taken by it was needed. O and the waiters thought that I was Sophie's mom. It was pretty funny when I had to clarify.

We watched Brett and his b-ball team play. They creamed the other team.

Sophie at the Chinese restaurant Shoots. It was delicious and I loved my chicken mu shu. I think this picture of Soph is adorable.

Mommy and me.

We also watched V for Vendetta (the edited version) when Sophie went to bed. That movie is stupendous, incredible, amazing, miraculous, awe-inspiring, soul-wrenching, thought-provoking and all those adjectives. You must watch it. Remember remember the 5th of November gunpowder treason and plot, I see no reason why gunpowder, treason should ever be forgot.

The day after Sophie and mom left, I did a modeling photo shoot with my friend Lindsey. As you can probably tell by my pictures, I am no model and am probably one of the top five least photogenic people alive. But, Lindsey said that her friend needed a brunette for the photo shoot, so I was picked. The photo shoot was for a company called Bizzy Babees that sells covers for nursing. So, we modeled those. And none of us models are moms, thus we have no experience. It was quite funny, especially the fake smiling and laughing while pretending to nurse. Don't worry, we weren't exposed or anything of the sort. Maybe I'll send a link to the website when the pictures are posted, but maybe I won't depending on how terrible they turn out to be. This experience made me realize that I don't ever EVER want to be a model. YUCK. Nor do I have the patience or the talent to be.

My brother, Marcus, turned 17! Ahhhhhhh! He's getting so old!

To celebrate, he went to Harry Potter world with his friend's family over President's weekend and then went go-carting with his buddies on his actual birthday. I love you Marcesio!

Last night, I went to Jessie's senior dance showcase (she is my cousin-in-law). She performed a solo while pretending to dance through water and it was so good! Way to go!

The McCloskeys came as well. I love my extended familia.

Additionally, Bri is in town! We saw her on Friday night and last night. And, Brett's mom is coming in town for a week tomorrow! Family time is one of the best things ever. Ohana means family, and family means no one gets left behind. If you can name that movie, I'll give you a thousand points.

winter semester

So, I was going to do this a long time ago. But, like usual, I put it off till the middle of the semester. O well.

I made this today to put as the cover for my binder for the Winter semester of 2012. Hurray!

Did you catch the hidden message in the 0?

Pictures and stuff about my mom and Sophie visiting el Provo and my embarrassing modeling experience to come. It's been a crazy week, but I'll get to it nonetheless.

O and Happy really late Leap Day! To celebrate, I did something for the first time: a weight-lifting class. Haha, twas interesting. I have the puniest biceps I've discovered.

Anyway, live long and prosper.
