and the oscar goes to...

Last night we held our very first apartment party. And I deem it a success. It was for the Oscars (aka The Academy Awards) which I am in love with.

We had some family and friends over and ate really yummy food and voted on who we think would win and chatted and watched the Oscars (and the All Star game during commercial breaks).

 Lindsey grabbing some grub.

We had a Mexican themed dinner including tacos filled with shredded crock-pot chicken (Brett made it and it was delicious), refried beans, Mexican spicy rice, salsa, cheddar cheese, lettuce and sour cream. We also had chips and salsa and guacamole (thanks to Lindsey for making that), carrots and celery with ranch, strawberries and bananas, Mexican soda and Sprite zero, and a ton of dessert thanks to Brian and Jennica and Aunt Kim. We all were completely stuffed by the end of the night and we still have so much extra food.
Rachel, Jenna and Aunt Kim eating while enjoying the show.

Cute couple Brian and Jennica. Brian hated Hugo; still can't get over that.

 Family cuddling together. Precious.

Almost everybody in this shot. Some smiling and some paying dead attention to the show.

I didn't get any of my Oscar predictions right except for Midnight in Paris winning Best Original Screenplay. I stink at Oscar voting apparently.

Some of our favorite looks of the night:

Berenice Bejo nominated for her role in The Artist.

 Gwyneth Paltrow.

Michelle Williams nominated for her role in My Week with Marilyn.

I wanted Hugo to win best picture and Jessica Chastain to win best supporting actress for her role in The Help, but you can't always get what you want.

It was so fun. I want to go to the Oscars one day and win for best original screenplay. Yep, I think I will do that.

winter wonderland

Our weekend in Victor, Idaho and Jackson Hole, Wyoming was exquisite.
That really is the correct adjective to describe it.

On our way up to Idaho, we stopped by the Nike store and got ourselves some great new exercise clothes (Brett has a mild obsession with them), and visited Bri at BYU-Idaho. It was really dark and snowy when we got there so we couldn't see much of anything of the town of Rexburg, but that's okay. We were able to stop by the Rexburg temple and it is absolutely gorgeous. Bri showed us her apartment and we talked and laughed and ate dinner at 10:30pm at New Fong's.

O, and Brett ran over a fire hydrant.

We love our Nanners.

We got up to the Teton Springs Resort around 1:00am or so. The roads were so snowy and the visibility so low that I was getting reallllly nervous on our drive up there. I couldn't handle it anymore, thus I went to sleep and prayed we didn't get in another accident that night. Which we didn't, thankfully.

Our suite was utterly amazing:

It had a full kitchen, two full bathrooms plus a giant jacuzzi tub, a fireplace, flatscreen TVs and a giant living room and bedroom. Needless to say, we were wickedly spoiled.

Sunday we chilled in the little town of Victor, Idaho, ate nummy food, took much needed naps cuddling by the fire and experienced the awe-inspiring winter wonderland.

This place was called Sun Dog Cafe and it was delectable.

Look at the big icicle! O my goodness! The scenery was white, and peaceful and soul-replenishing.

On Monday, we went to Jackson Hole. I looooove Jackson Hole. I used to go there with my family for summer vacations. I have such good memories in Wyoming and especially in Jackson. When we got to the town, I was telling Brett about all the places I've been in the town and couldn't stop talking about how nothing had changed, that everything looked exactly how it used to. It was rather fun to go to an old place I love with a new companion, my one and only husband.

Prepare for picture overload.

We got ourselves some ribs at Bubba's BBQ.

Walked around the art galleries and the streets. I've decided that we are going to have a big art collection, and I'm really excited about it. The art galleries had some incomparable Native American art that I would like to purchase one day and have in my house.

We thought this sign was funny.

More walking the streets (not for money though). Anyone get my allusion to "Roxanne"?

And we got ourselves some candy. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

We love Jackson Hole!

Then we drove home and experienced the most beautiful drive of our lives. We barely talked because we were just looking at the abyss of white. We felt like we were in another world; it was so ethereal and sublime. The sky was white, the rolling hills were covered in white snow, wisps of snow were blowing in the wind like silvery snakes, and we were the only ones on the road. There were so many times that I wanted to stop and take a picture, but honestly the picture would not do it justice.

It was possibly the loveliest scene I have ever seen.

What a great weekend! It was so nice to get away with the man I love and forget responsibilities for a little.  Can't wait for our next President's weekend trip!

writing fellows

E'erbody will join the Writing Fellows after they see this cool poster I designed for recruiting.

Unfortunately, I can only upload it as a JPEG so the quality ain't that great.
But, I love this stuff.
It's so fun to do!

Happy Tuesday!

The details of our amazing weekend in Idaho and Jackson Hole to come.

AND, my mom and Sophie are coming in town today. Hurray!

love time

To celebrate Valentine's day, Brett and I had a quiet evening in.

We made a fort and watched movies and ordered delicious pizza and made chocolate fondu.

 We decided to dress nice.

Brett got me beautiful tulips and I got him balloons and decorated the apartment with love notes.

It was such a nice time. Love day is the best, especially when you have someone wonderful to share it with.

Brett and I are going to a resort next to Jackson Hole for President's weekend. I'm so stoked! We are going to have grand adventures.

Happy Valentine's day and President's weekend!

marital happenings

I found Brett like this the other day:

Isn't he so innovative? It made me laugh so hard.

This week we also went to our friend Lindsey's surprise birthday party.

Lindsey is surprised...even if she doesn't look like it in this picture.

 Couples pictures.

And Brett's team had another basketball game, which they won again.
 Elliott teasing Brett. Precious.
Jessie and me recorded the score and cheerleaded like good wives.

Jessie and Brandon came over and we played Cranium in which Jessie plummeted me into the ground whilst charading mud wrestling. I also saw The Vow with Lindsey and other girls and loved it. Good week and weekend. Brett and I are watching The Lion King right now and I remember why I loved it so much as a child...all the African music and spiritual messages me encantan.

Have the best of Sundays.

I'm obsessed with these songs:

If I could have anyone's voice it's a really tight competition between Lady Gaga and Adele. I think I'd like to have both.

And I'm oddly obsessed with this song:

I'm obsessed with this website:

I do the quizzes every time I'm bored in class. I know every capital in Europe thank you. Now I just have to tackle Africa.

Happy Thursday!

birthdays and basketball

Brett played a basketball game with his intramural team this week and they destroyed their opponents. The final score was 63 to 39. Good job boys! It was fun to sit with Jessie (my cousin-in-law) and cheer and be in charge of the score board.

On another note, today is my baby sister's birthday! Sophia Kira McCloskey, I love and miss you and wish you a very happy birthday. She is 6 today!

I am so sad I can't be there with my family today. My sister, Bri, is down in San Diego to celebrate with the family and Sophie's friends. Live it up for me Bri!

Happy 6th Birthday my little Sophie Boph! I'm so happy you're in the family!
