change of plans

We are moving to North Carolina on Saturday for the rest of the summer and I could not be more thrilled!!!  As great as Minnesota is, I've been really lonely out here because there are no other wives.  I'm ready for some other estrogen and to stop being by myself everyday.  I'm very much an extrovert, so being around people gives me energy and livens me up.

I'll miss this

But I'm incredibly excited for this
and to be around people once more.

shelter me provo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So Brett and I do not have an apartment picked out for this fall in Provo and I am fahareaking out!!
We have less than a month till we move back!
We've been bookmarking places on craigslist that seem enticing, and I just saw that nearly all of them have already been sold.
EEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek!!!
We have to live somewhere!!
o my goodness, o my goodness, o my goodness, o my goodness.
Thankfully, my amazing uncle is looking at an apartment for us today.
It's hard because we don't know what any of the apartments look like in real life, and the pictures always make them look prettier.
Gah!

On second thought, I guess we could live in one of the many abandoned rooms of the HFAQ.
I'd doubt if anyone would notice for at least 6 months.
Anyway, that officially ends my cyberspace freak out.

My fantabulous uncle that is scoping out apartments for us today.

I have never been more grateful for a roof over my head.  Let's hope we find one in Provo!

i think to myself... what a wonderful world

Recently I have been the biggest hermit/recluse ever.
I haven't been going out knocking with Brett as much anymore which means I spend my days inside.
All day.
But, not today!

This morning, Brett and I went for a much needed workout at the apartment complex gym.
O how I have missed exercising. It's one of the best things on the planet.
Brett and I made a pact to exercise every morning this summer from now on.
Great and inspired plan I think.
No more couch potato Victoria.

Here we are happy and breaking a sweat:

 I love my red-headed wonderman!

After the g.l.o.r.i.o.u.s. workout we went for a stroll along the gorgeous lake right by our apartment, Parkers Lake.
Minnesota has such beautiful greenery and the nicest lakes.

I love summer. And I love this world. It's such a beautiful one. And I love Brett. And exercising.
Basically, I'm just happy right now.
Have a good Monday!

es my birfday

Yesterday was my birthday...and we celebrated it homebody style.
I turned 20, so now I can actually tell people that I'm 20 without slightly bending the truth.
Yes, I know I was a young bride.

Brett got to take a day off work to be with me which was absolutely blissful.
I couldn't think of a better way to spend my birthday than with the man I'm head over heels for.
In the morning he made me an amazing breakfast:

and gave me a massage. We spent the day together in our pjs laughing, eating, and watching movies.
I saw Ocean's 11 for the first time yesterday and I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed it.

My present from Brett: scriptures with my new name engraved on the front, Victoria Kerin Candland.

Since we don't have a car, it's rather hard to go places.  But, we will further celebrate at a nice restaurant once we get the chance.  Yay birthdays!

only regret

My only regret about the entire wedding experience was getting satin table cloths.  Maybe it was just the people that we rented them from, but they looked all wrinkled and un-chic.
For those of you who are planning a wedding, DO NOT GET SATIN TABLE CLOTHS!  Or if you do, make sure they are steamed or ironed or something.
I promise you will have nightmares about them for weeks after.

Such a beautiful moment, but I can't get over those barf table cloths!
I think I'm going crazy.  Post-wedding distress syndrome ;)

randoms

For those of you who like to read and who especially like Jodi Picoult (author of My Sister's Keeper), I recently read a book by her called Second Glance and it was quite intriguing.  It's a story that mixes ghosts with eugenics and it's a really fun read.  A little eerie at times.  But, if you're looking for an interesting summer read, I would definitely recommend this book:

by the extraordinary Jodi Picoult

Another random tangent, it is so so hot in Minnesota!  I don't understand how a place that can get to -30 degrees can also get to 110??
Here is a picture of Brett and I in our Sunday best on a very very hot Sunday (we immediately ran inside after this picture to attempt to cool off)

Happy Tuesday!
xoxo, the Candlands

the boy who lived

Brett and I were 2 out of the 10 people in the country who did not see the last Harry Potter movie at the midnight showing on July 15.
Sad I know.  But we are adults now and adults have jobs and can't go to bed late.
So we went on a married date this morning and saw it.
And after all the years of anticipation and excitement, the movie did not leave us hanging.
We loved it!!!!!! Especially the part where the stone soldiers at Hogwarts are summoned to fight.
I am normally a big promoter of dressing up, but since we saw it at 10:30 in the morning we did not.
I didn't feel that bad though since I've dressed up for Harry Potter before

first as Tonks
(on the right is my adorable old roommate Jessie Crook as Moaning Myrtle)

and then as Bellatrix Lestrange
(yes that is a guy dressed as Voldemort with my other amazing old roommate Lyndsi Tolbert as Hermoine Granger)

In case you haven't noticed, I'm a die-hard Harry Potter dork.
As I was researching the success of the movie, I found through the Los Angeles Times that this final movie had the highest-grossing opening of all time, achieving $168.6 million in U.S. and Canada in three days!!  The movie also had the biggest international debut ever, grossing $307 million overseas in 59 foreign countries. Yeah HP!!!
What I found most interesting is the place that sold the most opening night tickets in the nation was the Jordon Commons Megaplex Theater in Jordan, Utah.  I guess us Mormons just love us some Harry Potter.

ode to minnesota

Brett and I are in Plymouth, Minnesota right now where he is working for Pinnacle Security.

Hi, would you like a monitored home security system??

He is doing door to door sales and he works from about 12:00 pm to 9:00 pm e'erday.
I've gone out with him for a total of seven days out of the week and a half that we have been here.
And can I tell you, it is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo hard!!!
It's so hard to stay positive and hydrated and happy and hopeful even when we have success.
maybe it's just because I'm a novice at it, who knows.
I have so much more respect now for door to door salesmen...their job is not easy nor glamorous nor particularly fun.
My husband is such a trooper and I'm so proud of him.
Here he is in his Pinnacle get up!!

Anywho, being out here would be a lot harder if the people were mean.
But the people are so nice!!!
This past Sunday, the bishop of our temporary ward invited Brett, our friend Stephen and me over for dinner.
Not only was having free food and happy company gracious enough, but they also gave us all of their homemade bread, a jar of d.e.l.i.c.i.o.u.s. strawberry jam, and a handmade dish rag the bishop's wife had crocheted.  They told us that we could use their kayaks any time and to call them if we needed anything.
Now, the world needs more people like that.
While we are out knocking, people have given us cans of sodas to drink or let us use their bathrooms and have just been the sweetest to us.
If only the weather were better I may consider making a permanent move to MN.

So, that's what the Candlands are up to. Coming soon....wedding week!! Be excited!

Back Again...with news about the Honeymoon!!

So...Brett and I are married!!! I'm going to talk all about the wedding a bit later, when I have the pictures.  But it was perfect.  Brett is a wonderful husband and I love him more than anything I've ever loved before.  I'm going to start off this blog by sharing about our i.n.c.r.e.d.i.b.l.e. honeymoon.
wow.

We started our honeymoon driving down the 1 freeway from Danville, CA to the Santa Barbara area on Sunday June 26th, the day after the wedding.  We drove down windy roads right along the ocean.  I kept telling Brett to look at the AMAZING view, but he had to keep reminding me that he was driving and thus could not look every two seconds.

Here we are as a one-day-old married couple!

Brett's dad gave us a gift certificate that he received from one of his clients to this beautiful seaside resort in Goleta, CA (about 15 minutes outside of Santa Barbara) called  the Bacara.
It was exquisite.

the entrance sign.

At the Bacara we:

spent a lot of time at the pool

road a surrey bike on lovely Santa Barbara beaches

looked at dead sea creatures and did tribal dances on Goleta beaches

ordered a lot of d.e.l.i.c.i.o.u.s. room service....nearly every meal....yummmmm

had an amazing couples massage (pictures taken in the car on the way back)

ate a d.e.l.e.c.t.a.b.l.e four course seafood meal at Bacara's fine dining restaurant, the Miro

spent romantic nights in

took pictures with a hippie and his super cool mega-decorated car

and told each other how much we love each other

It was awesome...every second of it.
And now real life begins where we actually have to make money and work hard.
For all y'all out there that are skeptics, marriage is the best.  Believe it.
